6th Edition of the International Course on Public Policies in Human Rights

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) and the MERCOSUR Institute for Public Policy on Human Rights (IPPDH) are pleased to announce the 6th edition of the International Course on Public Policy on Human Rights, which will be held jointly for the fourth time.

The International Course on Public Policies on Human Rights is a comprehensive training course for public sector officials responsible for the design, management, implementation and evaluation of public policies, members of organizations and social movements, academics from MERCOSUR and OAS member states.

This initiative is part of the cooperation agreement signed between the two organizations and a result of their combined work. On the one hand, the IPPDH and its International School, whose main objective is the comprehensive training of public officials and civil servants in the field of human rights. On the other hand, the IACHR, which, in accordance with its mandate, organizes training and capacity-building activities aimed at strengthening national capacities for the implementation of inter-American human rights standards.

The course offers an insight into the experiences and challenges for the implementation of a human rights approach in state institutions. This training will combine theoretical and practical information on international human rights law, the Inter-American System for the Protection of Human Rights, social sciences and public administration, together with practical experiences implemented by the States of the region in recent years that have had a high impact on the guarantee of rights.

The course is offered in mixed modality, with a first virtual phase, of 7 modules, which will begin in February 2023. The second phase, which will be in person, will be held in May in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. During this phase, participants will have the opportunity to attend lectures given by specialists on the different topics addressed during the course and will have to present their final projects. Both phases are mandatory.

Participants may also take an optional intensive virtual workshop on the Inter-American Human Rights System and its mechanisms.
