Page 23 - Preliminary Report on the Venezuelan Migrant and Refugee Crisis in the Region
P. 23

Figure 4 compares the cumulative total amount of financial aid that the international

community has provided for humanitarian and other types of assistance to migrants and

refugees from different conflicts for which data are available since the year in which each crisis
leading to displacement began. The data in the graph come from the Financial Tracking System

(FTS) portal of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs

(UNOCHA). The figures correspond to FTS-reported funding, and therefore exclude other types
of financing. In other words, the figures may underestimate the actual total amount of

               financing for each crisis.

As the graph shows, different migrant and refugee crises,

                In the case of Venezuela,
such as the cases of Syria and South Sudan, reportedly
                however, three years
since the flow of migrants received billions of dollars in funding in the first years after
and refugees accelerated, forced migration began. In the case of Venezuela, however,

                the amount of
three years since the flow of migrants and refugees
                international monetary
assistance provided and accelerated, the amount of international monetary
pledged is around US$163 assistance provided and pledged is around US$163 million.
                million.
Even if the United Nations drive to raise US$737.61 million

in funds to provide humanitarian and other types of aid to Venezuelans scattered throughout

the region were to become a reality in 2019, the total amount would still be less under US$1
               billion.
